Polish Totalizator Sportowy, the state-owned gambling company, posted significant improvement in its overall sales in 2018, passing the PLN6 billion threshold.
Totalizator Sportowy Revs Up Revenue in 2018
Poland’s main gambling operator, Totalizator Sportowy, has managed to finish 2018 pulling off an impressive overall score with the company generating PLN6.1 billion in 2018. This topped the 2017 results by 8.5%, a significant uptick by any estimate.
The results reflected well on both the state’s coffers and sport in Poland as a whole. Nearly PLN2 billion were paid to the tax office and PLN1 billion went directly to Polish sport.
According to Totalizator Sportowy CEO Olgierd Cieślik, the company has managed to achieve an important milestone with the prospects for the future boding much better. The company is only now beginning to leverage its iGaming products, including a freshly launched Playtech portfolio introduced in December 2018.
Playtech’s Total Casino, the flagship online casino launched in December, is expected to push up the overall sales by the eye-popping 30% overall. Poland is also enjoying a relatively isolationist market, in which few other companies operate at the moment.
The Ministry of Finance has been an inexorable advocate against illegal gambling, meaning that many offshore and unlicensed websites have been blocked out from the country. As of April, 2019, the Ministry had ousted some 6,550 illegal gambling domains in the country, with the list constantly expanding.
Some respected or at least popular brands have also made the list of bans issued by the Ministry. These included names such as:
- Betsafe
- Bet-at-home
- Evobet
- GGbet
- Spin Palace
Combining the now proven expertise of Totalizator Sportowy with the favorable domestic climate, the company is slated to push its profits in 2018 well beyond the PLN6-billion threshold. If Total Casino successfully captures Polish customers love to place wagers on iGaming products, the monopoly can in fact achieve an overall 40% increase.
Poland’s Expanding Gambling Market
Despite initial opposition to the institution of gambling, Poland has seen reason to push forth with the expansion of its own market. One of the few legal betting companies in the country, STS, has launched a series of land-based betting shops, which are geared towards a better class of gamers.
The venues offer various spots betting options as well as betting terminals to facilitate the overall expedience of the betting process. STS is going to expand into major and minor cities online. The sports betting shop is planning to capitalize on several language groups, including Ukrainian, Russian, German, and English.
STS is also banking on technologies to push forward his offer as nearly 80% of all its profits come through digital sports betting verticals, which is a colossal achievement and well ahead of competitors in even better developed markets. The company is also planning to enter new markets across Europe and consolidate its international footprint.
