Scientific Games’ OpenBet Engine Powers Fanduel’s WV Sportsbook

NASDAQ-listed gaming technology provider Scientific Games (SG) announced Tuesday it teamed up with Flutter Entertainment’s daily fantasy and sports betting brand FanDuel, to power up the sportsbook offering of the operator in West Virginia and make the operator the first to utilize SG’s world-class sports betting engine.

“Going live with FanDuel’s new sportsbook is a truly landmark moment in our rich history of servicing Flutter Entertainment brands.”

Jordan Levin, CEO, Digital, Scientific Games

Next Generation Sportsbook

The partnership marked a debut for FanDuel’s new global sportsbook which the brand developed together with SG, to fully utilize the OpenSports platform of the technology provider and take advantage of its OpenBet betting engine.

“We are excited to roll out our next generation sportsbook technology throughout the United States, starting with West Virginia. Our global sports betting platform will offer customers an unrivaled betting experience and will cement FanDuel’s place as America’s number one sportsbook.”

Matt King, CEO, FanDuel Group

The new partnership with FanDuel expands on the long-lasting sports betting partnership between SG and Flutter Entertainment, as the OpenBet betting engine continues to power global sports betting offering for some of the most popular brands of the gaming group: Betfair, Paddy Power and Sky Bet in Europe and Sportsbet in Australia.

“Utilizing OpenSports technology is a game changer for FanDuel and will introduce a new way of betting for its customers. Our dedicated team has been extremely agile and flexible, providing the operator with excellent service in West Virginia.”

Jordan Levin, CEO, Digital, Scientific Games

West Virginia Sports Betting Highly Competitive

Powering its sports betting offering with the OpenBet engine will give FanDuel the competitive edge in a sports betting market where all the big names are present. Besides Flutter’s brand, West Virginia features mobile sports apps from the other 3 major players, DraftKings, William Hill and BetMGM.

Recently, Flutter Entertainment announced a move to reach 95% stake in the sportsbook provider by acquiring the 37.2% FanDuel share capital held by Fastball Holdings, entering into conditional agreement to buy the stock for $4.175 billion, and to raise a portion of the cash payment, Flutter Entertainment completed a new share placement of ordinary shares worth nearly a billion-and-a-half.

Scientific Games was materially impacted by the coronavirus outbreak and the gaming technology provider posted net loss of $111 million for the third quarter, in huge contrast to the $18 million profit posted in Q3 2019. The downturn in the business the company explained by the reduced casino operations of its global casino partners.
