PokerStars: WCOOP Starts August 22, Features $100M Guaranteed
The 2021 World Championship of Online Poker marks PokerStars’ 20th anniversary. To commemorate the anniversary, PokerStars unveiled that the prize pools it has granted between 2001 and the upcoming event are set to exceed $1 billion. The WCOOP rolls out on August 22 and will feature 306 events and $100 million in GTD prize money.
WCOOP to Start on August 22
Earlier this week, PokerStars revealed details about the 2021 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). The WCOOP is set to run from August 22 through September 15 and feature the staggering 102 events. Celebrating PokerStars’ 20th anniversary, the total prize pools allocated to events over the years will reach $1 billion.
The exact total in guaranteed prize pools for all tournaments is the eye-popping $100,805,000. The total number of events has been increased to 306 tournaments over 15 days. The games which are going to be played include Texas hold’em, Badugi, 6+, razz, HORSE, and more. Apart from the substantial prize pool, the winners of every tournament will take home an exclusive WCOOP trophy.
While last year, the WCOOP guaranteed prize pool hit $20 million, now, PokerStars is seriously trying to steal the thunder from rivals WPT and WSOP. In that line of thought, the network has revealed that cumulatively, from 2002 to 2020, the prizes have hit $972,894,032. That once again underlines how big the prize pool of the 20th-anniversary WCOOP event is.

WCOOP Offers Plenty of Action for Any Type of Player
While there is a lot of medium-tier and high-tier events, PokerStars also thought of low-tier players. As a part of the WCOOP 2021, there will be 23 tournaments, featuring a $5.50 buy-in. Additionally, 39 more tournaments will feature an $11 entry fee, providing players with plenty of action.
Focusing on the highlights we see that PokerStars has prepared a $5,200 buy-in WCOOP NLHE Main Event. The event rolls out on September 12 and features a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million. The medium version of the event features a $530 buy-in with a $2.5 million guaranteed prize pool. On the other hand, PokerStars also offers a low buy-in version of the event with a $55 buy-in and a $1.5 million guaranteed prize pool.
Plenty of action awaits poker players who may want to participate within the Super High Roller. The $25,000 entry event has a $3 million guaranteed prize pool. With that in mind, PokerStars revealed that hundreds of satellites will give players a chance to access the WCOOP at a “fraction of the advertised entry fee,” but there will also be freerolls.
