Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue in September Reaches $415.6 Million
Pennsylvania casinos are in for a celebration as September 2021 has proved to be far better than September 2020 as the total generated revenue by all of the gambling facilities, as reported by the state’s regulators for this month, is $415.6 million. That is a 46% increase than September 2020, which equals $130 million higher revenue. September 2020 resulted in $285.5 million in revenue, as reported by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).
However, the generated revenue is lower than July, when the state had an all-time high revenue of $423.6 million. As the numbers show, September’s revenue was $8 million lower than July’s revenue.
Parx Casino in Bucks County Generated The Highest Revenue
Parx Casino, located in Bucks County and one of the 16 licensed operators in Pennsylvania, generated $57.1 million, the highest in the state.
Rivers Casino Pittsburgh generated $33.1 million. According to the data, the main contributor to Rivers Casino’s revenue were slot machines, which brought in $22.6 million. Table games generated $8.1 million and online and retail sports betting raked in $2.4 million. The total sports revenue of the facility last month was $27.6 million.
The rebranded Hollywood Casino at Meadows in Washington County, which was previously known as The Meadows Racetrack and Casino, reported a total of $18.9 million in revenue. Slot machines managed to bring in $13.9 million, table games brought $2.8 million, while online and retail sports betting brought in $2.1 million. Sports betting revenue was down compared to August, reaching $6.8 million. All in all, the facility recorded a total of $166.6 million being wagered on sports.
Fayette County’s Lady Luck Casino recorded $2.29 million in revenue. Slot machines contributed $2 million, while table games contributed $265,167. Next, Live! Casino Pittsburgh, which opened its doors in November at the Westmoreland Mall in Hempfield, recorded $9.2 million in revenue for September. A majority of the revenue was generated by slot machines – $7.6 million. Table games contributed $1.4 million and retail sports betting brought in $178,538, while the total amount wagered on sports was $984,381.
Slot Machines Contributed Heavily To the State’s Overall Revenue
Across Pennsylvania, retail slots generated $198.8 million in revenue, while table games generated $84 million. Online slots generated $68.5 million, while online table games generated $26.3 million. Online poker brought in $2.9 million. Video gaming terminals reported $3.4 million in revenue and, as the data shows, fantasy contests brought in $3.2 million.
Both online and retail sports betting had $28.2 million in revenue in September, which is a massive increase from August, when it was $18 million. The total wagered amount in Pennsylvania was $578.8 million in September, while August’s total wagered amount was $348.5 million. This represents a $230.2-million increase.
Compared to New Jersey, these numbers are still low. As the independent website that covers regulated and legal gambling in NJ, Play New Jersey, reported, the state of New Jersey had a $1 billion revenue in September. In doing so, New Jersey became the first state to generate upwards of $1 billion in betting on sports in just one month.
Last December, New Jersey came close to reaching this goal after it recorded $996.3 million in revenue.
Eric Ramsey, a PlayUSA analyst, stated that the fact the NJ sportsbooks reached $1 billion in handle for September is proof that no other US gaming market is on the level of New Jersey.
