WPT Online Borgata Poker Tournament to Start in September
The World Poker Tour announced that the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open Tour will launch in September. The $3,500 buy-in tournament offers players a chance at winning a piece of a $1 million guaranteed prize pool.
WPT Online Borgata Poker Tournament Rolls Out on September 19
World Poker Tour and BetMGM announced on Tuesday that the WPT Online Borgata Poker Open tournament will start in September. The second-ever online US WPT Main Tour event starts on September 19 and will run through September 21. The event features a $1 million guaranteed prize pool. The buy-in for the event is set at $3,500. Considering the nature of the tournament, the final action will be live-streamed.
Besides a lot of entertainment for poker fans, the inaugural event will lead Partypoker’s online series in New Jersey. Furthermore, the event complements the collaboration between BetMGM and WPT. The duo has joined forces aiming at providing quality poker events, featuring huge prize pools for players.
To participate in the WPT Online Borgata Poker tournament on Borgata Poker, Partypoker NJ, or BetMGM Poker, players must be physically located within New Jersey. The WPT revealed that several weeks before that launch of the tournaments Partypoker US Network is expected to host satellites, starting at $5, as well as a freeroll tournament, giving players a chance to access the tournament.
BetMGM and WPT Continue to Build Their Successful Relationship
BetMGM’s VP of gaming, Matthew Sunderland said in a statement that the WPT is a great partner. He acknowledged that the company is excited to work with the Tour to bring another Main Tour event for New Jersey residents. Last but not least, Sunderland stressed that the previous events that the two organizations held have been a “huge success,” and now poker fans in New Jersey have a chance of getting a piece of a big $1 million prize pool.

Angelica Hael, VP of global tour management for the WPT said that New Jersey keeps its position as a leader in regulated online poker. Additionally, she stressed that the WPT is thrilled to partner with BetMGM. Hael did not miss saying that the latest collaboration builds on three other successful events which were held in 2020. Now, according to her, this series help take the WPT-BetMGM partnership to new heights.
WPT’s CEO, Adam Pliska shared his excitement by saying that the WPT Online Borgata tournament marks the return of the Sexton Cup to New Jersey. Additionally, he deemed the partnership with BetMGM for online tournaments as a “strategic move.” Last but not least, Pliska said that WPT’s online tournaments are “bolstered by one of the longest and most prestigious casinos on the tour.“
