Delta Corp Opens a New Casino in South Goa, India
Delta Corp has consolidated its position as the largest gambling operator in Goa after it opened a new casino in the Zuri White Sands Goa Resort at Varca, now rebranded as the Deltin Zuri. The resort opened its doors to gamblers on June 2.
The New Venue Aims to Combine Luxury and Excitement
Delta CEO Anil Malani lauded Goa’s potential as a tourist destination with its mix of attractions, good cuisine, and entertainment. We are thrilled to begin operations of our seventh casino with Deltin Zuri and are excited to welcome all the guests and gaming enthusiasts,” Malani said and added that the new establishment would offer a regal yet intriguing gaming experience.
As a result of this acquisition, Delta Corp now owns the only land-based casino in South Goa. Rajendran Menon, General Manager of The Zuri White Sands Goa Resort, said that they are happy to be associated with Delta, “a brand known for its signature experience which is a mix of thrill, excitement, entertainment, and great service.” He expressed hope that patrons of the resort would find the new experience more thrilling and exciting. The newly rebranded Deltin Zuri offers more than 50 gaming positions. These include baccarat, blackjack, roulette, 3 Card Poker, and slot machines, but there are currently no live tables.
Delta Corp now operates five gambling establishments in Goa, two of which are located offshore. The Jaydev Mody-led company was allowed to reopen its venues in Goa on March 7, 2022, while its Sikkim casino reopened on February 11. Delta’s Nepal casino returned to full capacity on February 28. Despite closures related to the pandemic, April reports stated that Delta’s revenue increased 48.4% compared to last year and reached $100.5 million for 2021. Q4 saw profits of $6.3 million.
Delta Continues to Expand Its Footprint in India
The loosening of anti-Covid restrictions prompted further investments from the company, which will also replace its casino ship Deltin Caravela with a new vessel able to accommodate 2.5 times the number of clients. This May, India’s National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered Delta to stop the operation of Deltin Caravela as the company did not possess the required clearance to operate in the waters of Goa’s Mandovi River. However, swift action by Delta’s legal team allowed the vessel, which contributed about 5% of the casino giant’s 2021 profits, to resume accepting customers.
Delta also owns Gaussian Network, owner of the nation’s leading poker site, Adda52. The company is funneling substantial funds to expand its online footprint and offer a more accessible selection of games such as rummy and fantasy sports, which can hopefully attract a wider audience compared to the currently available online poker.
The gambling operator recently received permission to open another gambling resort in Pernem, but objections by Pernem’s deputy chief minister temporarily postponed these plans.
