Indiana Posts December Sports Betting Revenue, Up 28%

Sportsbooks in Indiana have managed to post a record total $161.8 million betting handle for December 2019, pushing numbers up by 28% from a month before in November.

Indiana’s Sportsbook Post a Record Sports Handle

Indiana’s sportsbooks managed to amass $12 million in total sports betting revenue off $161.8 million handle, marking a new state record in December, 2019. These new results constitute a 28.9% increase month-over-month compared to November, 2019.

The total handle collected online amounted to $110.6 million, yet another upswing for the state. Specifically, Indiana said that the online sports betting handle reached in December was 14.9% higher than the November results.

In other words, online betting will retain its dominance with some 68.3% of all total bets placed online. Revenue from online operators reached $7.8 million, which was still up 80.9% since November – a significant uptick in revenue.

The State’s Budget and Casinos Are Winners

In terms of taxes, the state managed to claim estimated $1.1 million, which was a 29% increase month over month. A main driver of the state’s revenue was the Ameristar Casino, which is teamed up with DraftKings and delivers state-of-the-art sports betting experience. DraftKings’ sportsbook in the state generated a total of $74.9 million in betting handle.

Next was Blue Chip Casino, a FanDuel property launched on September 5, 2019, which generated $36 million in terms of bets and added $2.2 million in revenue. Third was the BetRivers sportsbook, an operator focused exclusively on online operations.

BetAmerica was the latest to arrive in the state, so results haven’t been announced as of yet. On December 31, the day when Churchill Downs Interactive opened BetAmerica for business, a total of $2,129 was placed.

Another property to ride the popularity of sports betting was the Horseshoe Hammond Casino, located at the border with Illinois and Chicago, generated the best result in the retail betting segment, thanks to its strategical location.

Football stayed at the top in terms of source of revenue with some $59.1 million bet on various NFL games. Basketball came second with $42.3 million in total stakes.
