The Hong Kong Jockey Club, a provider of horse racing, sporting and betting entertainment, has named Michael Lee and Eric Cheung as chairman and deputy chairman respectively. Lee will succeed Philip Chen who worked as chair for the last two years.
Several New Members Join the Board
Lee will serve as the club’s chairman for the next year. He will be joined by three new board of stewards members, including Jackson Woo Ka Biu, Ann Kung Yeung Yun Chi and Anita Fung Yuen Mei. They will serve a three-year term, a two-year term and a single-year term respectively. The latter trio fills in the empty spots left after the retirement of Philip Chen, Richard Tang Yat-sun and Rosanna Wong Yick-ming.
Meanwhile, Hon Martin Liao, Silas Yang, Andrew Weir and Hon Bernard Charnwut Chan who, according to the official announcement, retired by rotation, have been re-elected as stewards. Each of the three will serve a three-year term, with the exception of Chan who will serve a one-year term.
Lee Is Excited about the Club’s Future
Michael Lee addressed his appointment as club chairman. He thanked his predecessor, Philip Chen, for helping the Hong Kong Jockey Club get through the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
During his tenure Philip was supportive, especially through the launch of the Club’s updated racing and charities strategies, which continue to provide a blueprint for the future development of the Club.
