GiG Gets License to Carry WSN Sports Betting Operations in Michigan
GiG said on Monday it has secured a sports betting license in Michigan for its affiliate website WSN.com. GiG’s flagship sports news brand will now operate in 10 states across the US.
WSN Now Licensed in 10 US States
Sports betting technology provider Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) announced on November 23 that it has successfully secured a vendor registration license with the Michigan Gaming Control Board for its affiliate website World Sports Network (WSN.com), allowing WSN to operate in the state.
Michigan is the tenth US state to authorize GiG’s flagship sports site WSN to offer legal sports betting content under state regulations. The Gaming Control Board oversees sports betting activity in Michigan and is tasked to approve or reject registration demands.
Jonas Warrer, managing director of GiG Media, shared in a statement that the new vendor registration license takes the group “one step further” in their plan to develop WSN “as one of the go-to sites for any US sports bettor.”
WSN has been growing in the US market, he added, and GiG Media is looking forward to future developments. The affiliate website offers sports content such as sports-related news coverage, statistics and various information options for sports fans.
Online Gaming is a Necessity During the Pandemic
Since the US Supreme Court’s repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act 1992 (PASPA), also called Bradley Act, on May 14, 2018, each state has been able to individually decide on the legalization of sports betting.
Many states have approved sports wagering over the past two years, pushed by the gaming industry’s efforts towards it. This is particularly true nowadays, as the Covid-19 pandemic prevents players from betting and gambling in person. Authorizing online and digital platforms to operate across the US is therefore necessary.
