New Research on Online Gambling Vulnerabilities to Be Launched by GamCare
The leading provider of support for people affected by problem gambling in Great Britain, GamCare, has announced its plans about the launch of new research on online gambling vulnerabilities. In collaboration with LAB, City University and Ignition House, GamCare’s new research is aiming at better understanding online gambling behaviors so that it can identify potential vulnerabilities in people who are gambling online.
According to GamCare’s announcement, the research will be conducted in two phases. During the first phase, a qualitative study will be conducted among 20 participants who participated in gambling activities online in the last six months. Consequently, the second phase will feature larger quantitative research.
The research’s main goal is to make online gambling significantly safer. To achieve this goal, the study will follow the vision of developing knowledge as well as interventions that protect gamblers.
Phase One of the Research May Begin in Early 2021
According to GamCare, currently, the research team is seeking participants for the first phase of the survey. If interested, people who want to participate can register their interest before Christmas.
With that in mind, the first phase of the research will likely begin in early 2021. The study involves 1-hour interviews between each participant and an experienced researcher. The interview may be conducted via phone or a video call. Researchers will be asking questions that aim at better understanding the online gambling behavior of the participants.
GamCare noted that there are “no right or wrong answers” as with the interview, the research team aims at understanding the experiences, behaviors, and feelings of people towards online gambling.
Furthermore, according to GamCare, participants who complete the 1 hour interview will be given a £40 Amazon voucher in exchange for their valuable feedback. The responsible gambling charity also stressed that help for this research will be extremely valuable and will also positively impact the wider online gambling community.
