Flutter Rolls Out New Monthly Spending Limit for Adults under 25

Flutter UK and Ireland, a part of Flutter Entertainment, announced on Monday that it launched a new policy designed to increase protection for younger customers. The new policy introduces a $691 (£500) monthly spending limit for all young adults under age 25. The company said that the new policy will be automatically implemented and valid for all customers under that age for the brands Paddy Power, Betfair and Sky Betting and Gaming within the UK and Ireland.

However, customers who can “demonstrate income to sustain an increased level of spend” will undergo a detailed screening process before the operator sets a different limit for them. Flutter acknowledged that the latest measure is a part of its risk-based framework dubbed Affordability Triple Step. The innovative framework monitors player activity and behavior to ensure that “gambling remains safe and enjoyable for customers.

The Company Remains Committed to Player Protection

Flutter Ireland and UK’s CEO, Conor Grant, said that the company hasn’t stopped looking for ways to protect its consumers, especially the young ones who may be vulnerable. He outlined that young adults under 25 may experience significant life changes, such as learning how to manage their finances or gaining independence. Grant stressed that Flutter wants customers who want to gamble to set “sensible spending limits” and the latest policy will contribute to that happening.

We are continuously looking at ways we can enhance protections for our customers, particularly those who are young or may be vulnerable.

Another key point raised by Grant is that Flutter shares its thoughts and data with the Government and hopes that the new measure will help with ideas, evidence and solutions in light of the ongoing review of the 2005 Gambling Act. He revealed that the review of the Gambling Act provides a key opportunity to update the gambling rules to fit the digital age. Grant further stated that Flutter would not hesitate to “implement ground-breaking policies that will make a difference for our customers.

The Enhanced Protection Policy Is Well Received

Flutter’s latest policy complements an ongoing effort by the whole industry to protect the younger consumers. The company outlined that this includes the use of Adtech, which is a functionality that aims to avoid young adults under 25 from being targeted by “paid for” social media channel ads. That is achieved thanks to the creation of specific age markers on data models, explained Flutter.

According to the company, following a recent poll, the new policy received widespread support across all age groups. Flutter revealed that overall, 77% of the regular gamblers approved the new measure. Additionally, 78% of the younger demographic, age 18-24, that participated in the poll approved the new enhanced protection policy.
