Esports Entertainment Group (EEG) announced today a new marketing partnership deal with a professional sports franchise, the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Starting from July 1, 2021, EEG will become the official esports tournament provider of the New York Rangers.
Engage with Hockey and Gaming Audience
“Over the last few years, we’ve hosted dozens of amateur esports tournaments with our esports organization CLG, which have been incredibly well received and we can’t wait to expand on this with the Rangers.”
Dan Fleeter, VP, Business Operations, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp
In addition, the esports company will operate 3 Rangers-themed esports tournaments via its Esports Gaming League platform, promoted across all Rangers digital platforms via custom videos created by EEG in collaboration with the sports team. Official Rangers merchandise and memorabilia will be part of the prizes for these tournaments.
“We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship with EEG and believe this is a wonderful opportunity to engage with an audience interested in hockey and gaming.”
Dan Fleeter, VP, Business Operations, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp
EEG’s Esports Gaming League offers gamers a chance to compete against each other on a wide range of live and online esports events and video games across a proprietary technology platform that utilizes full turnkey solution, live broadcast production, online branded tournaments and game launches.
“We are thrilled to welcome another leading professional sports team to our tournament platform. We look forward to working with the Rangers as they extend their brand into the rapidly growing world of esports.”
Grant Johnson, CEO, EEG
‘Industry Standard Tournament Platform’
Also speaking on the new marketing partnership, Magnus Leppäniemi, president of Esports at EEG, outlined the recognition EEG receives from professional sports teams due to its platform’s strength and flexibility to meet demand from large-scale deployments, helping the operator to quickly turn into “the industry standard tournament platform” provider.
“We look forward to helping the Rangers achieve their goals in this exciting new arena.”
Magnus Leppäniemi, President, Esports, EEG
The marketing agreement deal for the Rangers will further expand its parent company, Madison Square Garden Sports Corp (MSG Sports), exposure into esports. Besides the New York Rangers, the company is owning the New York Knicks of the National Basketball League (NBA), as well as esports teams through an NBA 2K League franchise Knicks Gaming and Counter Logic Gaming, an esports organization in North America.
MSG Sports is also running two development league teams, the Westchester Knicks and the Hartford Wolf Pack, and operates two professional sports team performance centers, the MSG Training Center in Greenburgh, New York and the CLG Performance Center in Los Angeles, California.
The Rangers became the latest professional sports team to partner with EEG, following in the footsteps of the Cleveland Cavaliers of the NBA which named EGG its official esports tournament provider in May.
