Argentina is moving quickly through the legalization of online gambling with Córdoba, the second-most populous province in the country, now opening the bidding process for the 10 available gambling licenses.

Córdoba Invites Companies to Apply for Licenses

The province follows in the footsteps of Buenos Aires, which became the first province to welcome gambling companies, and will issue licenses for up to 15 years. To apply, bidders must provide the necessary documentation and show proof that they fulfill the financial, economic, and technical prerequisites in order to hold a license.

Operators may apply through July 5 and be shortlisted, and approved candidates will be able to launch by September 14. Thanks to these licensees, operators will be able to provide a number of gambling options to local consumers.

These include casino-style games, sports and horse betting, and wagering on other, non-sports events, which could pave the way for entertainment, politics, weather, and even electronic sports, as well as virtual sports wagers. Córdoba has decided to levy each of these verticals a flat 10% on the gross gaming revenue generated by each stakeholder.

Even though the province originally wanted to enable only five licenses, further revisions have increased the number to 10 online gambling licenses. Argentina continues to regulate its market on a per-province basis, which should continue elsewhere in the country, as the Latin American country is doubling down on gambling.
