March was a successful month for casinos and racinos in Ohio, judging by data released Thursday.
Ohio’s Gambling Businesses Set New Record in March
The casinos and racinos in Ohio set a new record last month. Data released by the Ohio Casino Control Commission and the Ohio Lottery, reveals that the gaming revenue for casinos and racinos in March hit $216.2 million. A breakdown of the gaming revenues in March shows that the revenues for licensed casinos in Ohio hit $93.3 million. On the other hand, racinos’ gaming revenues reported a total of $122.9 million.
The previous record for gaming revenue in Ohio by casinos and racinos was set back in March 2021. Back then, the businesses have seen total revenue of $215.9 million, just shy of the current record. Although February and January this year weren’t record months for casinos and racinos, their revenues still surpassed $170 million. In February, casinos and racinos gaming revenues hit $178.7 million, while in January, they halted at $171.2 million.
Casinos Report Strong Revenues
The Ohio Casino Control Commission revealed a breakdown of the $93.3 million in gaming revenue for casinos in March. The highest revenue was reported by Jack Cleveland Casino. In March, the venue’s revenue hit $24.5 million. March was a good month for Hollywood Columbus Casino as well. Its revenue during March hit $23.4 million. Hard Rock Cincinnati Casino reported $22.9 million in gaming revenue for March, while Hollywood Toledo Casino has seen $22.4 million in gaming revenue.
Currently, casinos in Ohio pay 33% tax on their gross casino revenue. Under the current regulations, 51% of the tax proceeds are directed to the County Fund, while the Student Fund receives 34%. The Host City Fund receives 5% of the tax proceeds while the State Racing Commission and Ohio Casino Control Commission receive 3% each. The Law Enforcement Training fund receives 2% of the tax proceeds and the Problem Gambling and Addictions fund receive 2%.
March Marks a Strong Month for Racinos
The Ohio Lottery released a breakdown of the gaming revenue for racinos during March. The highest revenue last month was reported by MGM Northfield Park. Overall, the venue has seen a net win of $26.1 million in March, marking the highest revenue for the last six months. Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs located in Columbus reported a total of $21.7 million in gaming revenue. Similar to MGM, this was the highest revenue the venue has seen in the last six months.
Miami Valley Gaming reported a total of $20.3 million in gaming revenue last month, while JACK Thistledown Racino has seen $17.5 million in gaming revenue. Moreover, Hollywood Mahoning Valley Race Course reported $14.4 million in gaming revenue last month. A double-digit revenue was reported by Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway as well. In March, the venue has seen $14.3 million in gaming revenue. Last but not least, in March, Belterra Park Cincinnati reported $8.6 million in gaming revenue.
