Atletico Madrid is the reigning champion of the Spanish La Liga, but keeping the title seems almost impossible. Atleti have 14 points fewer than Real Madrid at the moment. On the bright side, they have one point more than Barcelona, the team they’re taking on this Sunday.
It seems that Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid is going to be a fight for a place in the Champions League. Atletico is currently in the Top 4, but if they lose to Barca, they will dropdown. That said, we can expect both teams to give their utmost this weekend.

Barcelona Looking for Its First Win Over Atletico Since 2019
In the previous five Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid duels, the team from the Spanish capital won three times. The other two games finished in a draw.
The last time Barca defeated this opponent was in 2019. The score was 1-0 and the only goal was scored by Lionel Messi. Unfortunately for Barcelona, Messi is no longer in the team. This explains why this team hasn’t been playing well in the 2021-22 season.
The good news for Barcelona is that their squad is going to be much stronger in the remainder of the season. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traoré have signed for Barca during the winter transfer window. Still, it’s not clear when the two are going to get on the pitch. It’s very likely we won’t see them playing against Atletico.
Atleti Want to Stay Undefeated in La Liga in 2022
Atletico Madrid is without a loss in the Spanish top-flight since the start of the year. They won two games so far, while also drawing one. What’s interesting is that we saw them score a total of 7 goals in those three matches, which is kind of surprising knowing that their total scoring tally is 36 goals.
Angel Correa scored four of those goals, while the remaining three were scored by three different players – Matheus Cunha, Mario Hermoso, and Geoffrey Kondogbia.
This fact shows that Atletico Madrid works great as a team, which could be their advantage in Sunday’s game. What needs to worry them is that their defense hasn’t been as good as usual. They conceded two goals in each of their previous two games. Still, they do have plenty of amazing defenders on the roster who definitely have the skills to stop Barca from scoring too many goals.
