Australia’s largest and most prestigious poker event, Australian Poker Millions, has postponed the 2021 edition indefinitely until the covid-19 pandemic has been handled. This follows a series of cancellations of other important poker events in the country this year.
2021 Aussie Poker Millions Scrapped Until Further Notice
The Australian poker community has taken another blow with the 2021 Australian Poker Millions postponed indefinitely due to covid-19. The event is not just the most prestigious one to participate in if you reside in Australia, but also the biggest chance for local players to shine and establish their names in the poker world.
Poker Millions and other events hosted by Crown Melbourne will have to be placed on hold until further notice, an official press statement said. Crown seemed unhappy with the situation, but the casino stressed that the well-being, safety and health of guests, employees and players came first.
However, Crown Resorts remains committed to taking action and readjusting any dates, depending on how the covid-19 pandemic progresses forward, and specifically comply with government and Victorian-issued recommendations.
The statement finished with a reassurance that Crown is actively looking for an official green-light from the government to reschedule the event and start reorganizing the process. In a recent comment, Crown CEO Ken Barton has commented on the casino’s strategy to cope with the pandemic, including enhanced sanitization and hygiene protocols with the doors tentatively opening for the public.
“We are pleased to be able to commence the process of welcoming back our employees and customers to Crown Melbourne.”
-Crown CEO Ken Barton
Crown is the de facto leader when it comes to all things poker. The casino has suffered a double whammy due to an investigation that could have bearing on the company’s license. Meanwhile, the poker industry in the country has taken one blow after another, with the Australian Poker Tour Sydney Series and Crown Poker Championship both cancelled due to the pandemic.
